    In Bielefeld there are many opportunities for you to learn German.

    You can attend integration courses, vocational language courses or language courses for university studies.

    Integration and alphabet-learning courses consist of a language and an orientation part and comprise several hundred hours of lessons.

    Integration courses for young adults (18-27 years)

    Integration courses specifically targeted at teenagers and young adults are also available in Bielefeld.

    Courses for parents and women

    The courses for women and parents address important topics such as the German education system and educational institutions.

    Vocational German courses (DeuFöV)

    After you have completed the integration course, it is possible for you to take part in a DeuFöV course (levels A2, B1, B2 bridge, B2, C1 and special courses for doctors and other healthcare professionals as well as technical professionals).

    Language courses for employees, apprentices and trainees

    Employees, apprentices and trainees are also able to attend language courses on a part-time basis. Eligibility to enroll for these courses can be applied for with BAMF [Federal Office for Migration and Refugees]. Exemption from the applicable tuition fees is possible on a means-tested basis.

    German courses for refugees at the University of Bielefeld

    The University of Bielefeld offers free courses for refugees who meet the requirements for matriculation or who have already graduated from a university in their country of origin. The prerequisites for this are eligibility to attend university, proof of residence and refugee status and proof that a preliminary language course has been completed.     Lehrkräfte Plus

    The “Lehrkräfte Plus” programme is aimed primarily at teachers with a refugee background and teachers from non-European countries.
    The programme consists of the following components:

    • Intensive German course (completion of TestDaF exam/ C1)
    • Pedagogical/intercultural training
    • Professional and educational activities
    • Practical experience at a school mentored by a teacher
    • Counselling on career prospects in the school system.

    Language-learning get-togethers for migrants who need language-learning support are for people who have some basic knowledge of German. Municipal language-learning get-togethers are held in several places in Bielefeld and are offered by various agencies (AWO, Diakonie Verband Brackwede, Diakonie Bielefeld, Caritas, Gesellschaft für Sozialarbeit, Evangelischer Kirchenkreis).     “Kompetenzwerk Arbeit und Sprache” has been developed from a cooperation between REGE mbH and AWO for the job centre Arbeitplus in Bielefeld. The job centre refers people to take part in this project.

    It is especially for people over the age of 18 who need support in language learning. The project contains coordination of language-earning courses in Bielefeld and in particular full integration support for the participants. In two offices in Otto-Brenner-Straße 247 and Gadderbaumer Straße 3 in Bielefeld, REGE mbH offers several services for the project participants; integration cafes, workshops, advice, coaching, offers for learning, etc.
